BU:101 Introduction to Data Processing - 3 cr
This is an introductory course on the general uses, operations and implications of data processing. Emphasis is placed on terminology. Testout available.

CP:201, CP:202, CP:203 Cooperative Work Experience - 1-3 cr
Cooperative Education Experience will integrate classroom theory with on-the-job training. The College will assist the student in securing employment which will be related to the student's major field of study and/or career interests. Under the supervision of the College and the employer, the student participates in job training experiences. In addition to employment, attendance at schedule on-campus seminars is required. Seminars my include job searching skills as well as professional development. Students may elect to take this course for 1-3 credit hours. They must complete 80 hours of related work experience for each credit hour.

CS:114 Microcomputer Applications - 3 cr
An introduction to computers including operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets/worksheets, database, presentation programs, email, the internet, and certain related computer concepts.  It will include student computer projects.  This course satisfies the general education requirement for computer literacy. Testout available.

IT:100 Foundations of Information Technology - 4 cr
This course is designed as an introduction to the general uses, concepts, application and implementation of information technology within business and industry. Topics include programming logic, number systems, basic hardware design, and software concepts. Some hands-on experience will consist of working with hardware, operating systems, and networking. No prerequisites. Testout available.

IT:102 IT Essentials I- 4 cr
IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and operating systems. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Through hands on activities and labs, students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. In addition, an introduction to networking is included. This course helps students prepare for CompTIA's A+ certification.

IT:104 IT Essentials II- 4 cr
IT Essentials II: Network Operating Systems is an intensive introduction to multi-user, multi-tasking network operating systems. Characteristics of the Linux, Windows 2000, NT, and XP network operating systems will be discussed. Students will explore a variety of topics including installation procedures, security issues, back up procedures and remote access.  Prerequisite:  IT100 or BU101.

IT:105 Applied Logic - 3 cr
Introduction to structured programming logic using a variety of methods to solve programming problems. Topics covered include flowcharting, pseudocode, hierarchy charts, truth tables, and logic constructs. The application of these tools will be to the COBOL and Visual Basic languages. No prerequisites.

IT:112 Cisco Networking I - 5 cr
This is the first of four semester courses designed to provide students with experience in current and emerging networking technology. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, network terminology and protocols, LANs, WANs, OSI models, cabling, cabling tools, routers, star topology, IP addressing, and network standards. Recommended Prerequisites: IT:100 or BU:101, IT:123, IT:132 Testout available.

IT:114 Cisco Networking II - 5 cr
This is the second of four semester courses designed to provide students with experience in current and emerging networking technology. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, network terminology and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, OSI models, Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, TCP/IP addressing protocol, routers, dynamic routing, routing, and the network administrator's role. Prerequisite: IT:112

IT: 123 Windows Operating Systems - 3 cr
This course will prepare the student for supporting and using Windows Operating System Platform in a business setting.  Topics of this course include installation, administration of resources, troubleshooting, networking, optimization, and security. Prerequisite: AO163 or equivalent Windows experience.

IT: 125 Introduction to Network Operating Systems - 3 cr
This course is designed to give students of varying experience a practical working knowledge of baseline IT skills and technologies. We will cover each of the major operating systems, including DOS, Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP, and UNIX/Linux.  Topics of this course include:  installation, administration of resources, troubleshooting, networking, optimization, and security.

IT: 128 Network+Exam Preparation - 1 cr
The Network+ Certification course will prepare the student to take the Network+ Certification Examination.  Through hands-on training, students learn the vendor-independent network skills and concepts that affect all aspects of networking, such as installing and configuring the TCP/IP client.  The course also helps to prepare students for two popular certification examinations: CompTIA Network+ and Microsoft Networking Essentials.

IIT: 130 Visual Basic I - 3 cr
This hands-on course provides a strong foundation in essential aspects of Visual Basic.NET.  It will include user interface design, logic development, and object-oriented programming techniques.  Students will develop business applications with multiple forms, arrays, and simple data access.
 Pre-requisite: IT:105 Applied Logic is strongly recommended.

IT:132 Applied Math for IT Majors - 3 cr
This course prepares Information Technology majors for the types of mathematics problems they will encounter in their career including: number systems, conversions, formulas, and reasoning. Logical steps to problem solving will be emphasized. Prerequisite: MA:050 or equivalent scores on assessment test. Testout available.

 

IT:135 Introduction to Web Page Development - 2 cr

This course provides an introduction to Microsoft FrontPage.  It is designed for the student who has little or no experience with writing or designing a web page.

 

IT:137 Introduction to Help Desk Concepts - 3 cr

This course will introduce the student to the service concepts, skill sets, career paths, and operations of the help desk industry. Students will master the role of a help desk analysis, navigate the help desk environment, and learn crucial problem solving skills. Through this course students will develop the “soft skills” and the “self-management skills” needed to deliver excellent customer support at the help desk.  This course provides an overview of the help desk for individuals interested in pursuing a career in technical support. The course will integrate strong real-world computer support examples, case studies, and group/team exercises to emphasize the concepts of the course.

IT:140 Hardware/Software Installation and Troubleshooting - 3 cr
This course provides students with "hands-on experience in installing PC hardware and software. Online resources and reference manuals will be utilized for troubleshooting hardware and software problems. Prerequisite: IT:123

 

IT:148 A+ Exam Preparation - 3 cr

The A+ Certification course will prepare the student to take the A+ Certification Examination.  Topics include: Computer architecture, microprocessors, memory, storage, video, modems, printers, LANs (Local Area Networks), Device Drivers, Batch Files, Hard Drives, MS-DOS, and Windows Family Operating Systems.  Prerquisites:  IT:100, IT:123, IT:140

IT: 150 Systems Analysis and Design - 3 cr
This course provides a broad yet specific treatment of the makeup, analysis, design, and implementation of systems projects with emphasis on learning how to analyze existing systems applications and design better ones for computer processing. Object-oriented design techniques and good communication skills will be emphasized. Prerequisite: at least two semesters of a programming language

 

IT: 155 PC Printer Maintenance and Repair - 3 cr

This course will prepare the student to: Troubleshoot laser, inkjet, and dot matrix printer failures, repair or replace the failing units, perform any required adjustments or alignments, and verify proper printer operation.  Proper preventive maintenance techniques will also be covered.


IT: 160 Visual Basic II - 3 cr
This course covers the use of ADO.NET and ASP.NET in creating multi-tier applications.  Students will also write and consume Web Services, create User Controls, write HTML help files, and create sophisticated reports using Crystal Reports.  Prerequisite: IT: 130

IT: 170 OOP Using C++ I - 3 cr
This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the C++ language. Topics covered include the Visual C++ environment, variables, calculations, loop structures, decision structures, pointers, arrays, functions, and function templates. Prerequisite: at least one semester of a programming language and IT:132

IT:200 OOP Using C++II - 3 cr
This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of object oriented programming (OOP) using the C++ language. Topics covered include the C++ environment, controls, properties, events, ActiveX controls, menus, dialog boxes, SDI applications, MDI applications, file access, and classes. Prerequisite: IT:170

IT:210 Unix - 3 cr
This course is designed to give students a basic understanding of the UNIX operating system, commands, and system administrative duties required when administering a UNIX-based system. Prerequisite: IT:100, IT:123,IT:132

IT:212 Cisco Networking III - 5 cr
This is the third of four semester courses designed to introduce new content and extend previously learned networking skills. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, switches, LAN design, VLAN design, VLAN configuration, IPX routing, IGRP protocols, and network troubleshooting. Prerequisite: IT:114

IT:214 Cisco Networking IV- 5 cr
This is the fourth of four semester courses designed to introduce new content and extend previously learned networking skills. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, WAN design, ISDN design, PPP protocols, Frame Relay design, Frame Relay configuration, and network troubleshooting. Prerequisite: IT:212

IT:216 Advanced Router Configuration - 5 cr
This course focuses on advanced routing and using Cisco routers connected in local-area networks (LANs) and wide-area networks (WANs) typically found at medium to large network sites. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to select and implement the appropriate Cisco IOS services required to build a scalable routed network. This course prepares the student for the BSCN certification exam. Prerequisite IT:214

IT:217 Remote Access Networks - 5 cr
In this course, students learn how to build, configure and troubleshoot a remote access network to interconnect central sites to branch offices and home offices. Students also learn how to control access to the central site, as well as to maximize bandwidth utilization over the remote links. This course prepares the student for the BCRAN certification exam. Prerequisite IT:214

IT:218 Multi-Layer Switching Networks - 5 cr
In this course, students learn how to build campus networks using multilayer-switching technologies over high speed Ethernet. This course includes both routing and switching concepts, covering both Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies. This course prepares the student for the BCMSN certification exam. Prerequisite: IT:214

IT:219 Network Troubleshooting - 5 cr
Network Troubleshooting is the last of four courses leading to the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. This course focuses on network problems and teaching students about troubleshooting network problems, to include documenting and baselining a network, troubleshooting methodologies and tools, and Layers 1 to 7 troubleshooting.   Prerequisite: IT:216, IT:217 & IT:218

IT:220 Visual Basic III - 3 cr
In this third course, students will develop a comprehensive, professional application.  Good programming standards, object-oriented techniques, multi-tier approach, database connectivity, project management, deployment, evaluation, and maintenance will be emphasized.  Students will explore trends in Visual Basic.NET as they participate in the developer’s communities. Prerequisite: IT:160.

IT:235 Internet Development I - 3 cr
Students will how to evaluate, design, construct and maintain Internet web pages and web sites.  Topics include HTML, DHTML, graphics, animation and FTP. Prerequisites: IT:100, and at least one semester of a programming language.

IT:238 Fundamentals of Web Design – 3 cr
Fundamental of Web Design will focus on the overall production processes surrounding web site design with particular emphasis on design elements involving layout, navigation and interactivity. Prerequisite: IT:235

IT:240 Database I - 3 cr
This course provides the student with an overview in database management systems. The students will learn about database fundamentals, database models and languages, database administration and current issues. Students will develop applications using Microsoft Access. Prerequisite: At least one semester of a programming language.

IT:245 Internet Development II - 3 cr
Students will develop interactive web pages and web sites that include forms, database support,  Java Applets, JavaScript, VBScript, CGI, XML, ColdFusion, and Perl. Prerequisite: IT:235

IT:255 Introduction to Oracle - 3 cr
This course is designed to enable students to learn the fundamental aspects of Structured Query Language (SQL) in order to create and maintain Oracle database objects, as well as store, manipulate, and retrieve data from an Oracle database. Also, students will learn fundamental aspects of Oracle's Programming Language/Structured Query Language (PL/SQL) in order to create PL/SQL application code blocks that ban be shared by Oracle forms, reports, and data management applications. Prerequisite: IT:100 and at least one semester of a programming language.

IT:256 Java - 3 cr
This course teaches students how to develop Java applications and applets. In addition to coverage of the key components of the Sun Microsystems Java language, the course will also focus on practical object-oriented concepts. Prerequisite: IT:170

IT:260 Windows Server - 3 cr
This course is designed to give students a practical understanding of the Windows NT[ah1]  Server operating system.  Students will perform commonly required “hands on” administrative labs using the Windows NT operating system.  Prerequisite: IT:102

IT:266 COBOL Programming I - 3 cr
Introductory concepts COBOL, the Common Business Oriented Language, will be presented in this course. Business problems will be solved using the structured approach to COBOL. Good style and design characteristics will be emphasized. This course will cover: the basics of logic design, basic COBOL syntax, common COBOL verbs, arithmetic operations, report editing, techniques for comparing, and programming multiple levels of control for report formats. Pre/Co-requisite: BU:101 or IT:100; IT:105 Applied Logic is strongly recommended.

IT:295 Innovations in Technology - 3 cr
The Information Technology profession demands constant professional updates. This course allows students to explore current trends in the information technology area and participate in other career-path professional development activities. Prerequisite: Advanced Standing (students have completed 50% of their coursework toward their degree)

 

IT:296 Network Administration Cases - 3 cr

This course is designed to give second-year students a practical understanding of how to integrate the wide variety of networking design and administration topics into a coherent whole.  Students will conduct focused, directed research in eight separate topical areas, and write formal assessment reports based upon their research.  Topical research areas include network design, network availability, Microsoft Windows Server Active Directory design and administration, wireless networking, security concerns, mixed IT environments, disaster recovery, and IT policies and procedures.  Course will be devlivered via the Internet.  Prerequisite:  IT123 or equivalent and advanced standing.
